Artist Residency in Germany
A four-week artist residency is now open to sculptors working in public space. The residency will take place in front of the historic Pfaelzer Hof building in Idar-Oberstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
During the renovation of the Pfaelzer Hof in 2010, it was discovered that the brick façade of the building was unstable. The structure was temporarily supported with tree trunks and later with massive steel girders. This unique architectural intervention now serves as inspiration for the residency, inviting artists to engage with materials such as brick, mortar, and cylindrical core drillings.
The goal is to create new public sculptures that will be installed in front of the façade, offering a conceptual and aesthetic reinterpretation of the site. While ideas inspired by classical architecture—such as Greek and Roman columns—are encouraged, the organizers also welcome bold and creative proposals that respond to the location and its material history.
